There’s more than one way to use a dishwasher!

Some days I feel pretty domestically challenged, but I just read about some new ways to use a dishwasher.  Who knew??

Wash Baseball caps, shin guards, knee pads and other sports equipment …

Top shelf (without dishes of course) and run through full cycle. This eliminates your sports items from becoming misshaped and faded.

Metal & plastic handles are okay – not wood. Place in top shelf and run through full cycle. Hair combs and brushes can be cleaned in the dishwasher, too.

Sterilize Toys & Other Disgusting Home Things

Action figures, toy cars and legos … how disgusting can those get, especially during cold season. Want a safer way of cleaning – sanitize – toys than bleach? Put them on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Mesh bags work great for smaller items. You do want to be careful of some of the toys as the temp does get pretty hot and you don’t want to upset anyone by melting their Pet Shop pets.

Cleaning Your Dishwasher

Dishwashers can get dirty and if you clean your dishwasher regularly, it can be a bit costly. Well, an inexpensive and effective way to clean out your dishwasher is with a plain packet of Kool-Aid lemonade drink mix. (no, not the dog, just thought he was cute) Pour the packet of lemonade Kool-Aid in the detergent compartment and turn on full cycle. This works great on stainless steel interiors …. If you’re wondering what this drink mix does to our stomachs, I’m still wondering about using Coke on battery terminals.

I haven’t tried this next thing … but who knows, it may work … Steaming Fish Fillets.

Wrap the fish T*I*G*H*T*L*Y in aluminum foil and place on top rack. Run through “normal” cycle (there is nothing “normal” about this), and include the dry cycle. And the one ingredient you can leave out, is the detergent. The fish should come out steamed and moist and hopefully won’t stink up your kitchen. You could throw the veggies in at the same time …

Believe it or not, there are many of recipes available for dishwasher cooking  – Hidden Valley Potatoes and Lasagna!

Well, I’m off to do my laundry in my oven and later actually do my dishes in my refrigerator … Let me know how the fish turns out!
